Our Story: The Legacy of Wirral Uniforms

Since 1970, Wirral Uniforms has been woven into the fabric of the community — a true local legacy built on family, hard work, and a genuine commitment to serving generations of families across the Wirral.

Humble Beginnings

Our story begins with Mrs. Norma Wibberley, who first set up shop as a simple market stall in Birkenhead Market. Selling mainly childrenswear and merchandise, she quickly became a familiar face to local shoppers. Her warm spirit and commitment to quality laid the foundation for what was to come.

A New Chapter with Pete

Mrs. Wibberley later passed the reins to her son, Peter Wibberley, who saw an opportunity to expand into something new. From selling sports kits and football memorabilia, Pete soon recognised a greater need — school uniforms. His vision transformed the stall into a booming business. At its peak, a visit to Wirral Uniforms was almost a rite of passage: crowds five-deep queued eagerly as blazers, shirts, and ties crowd-surfed their way across the sea of parents and pupils, ready to be tried on and proudly worn.

In 2011, the business outgrew its original market stall and moved to a larger unit just opposite Birkenhead Market, a fitting tribute to its roots. From there, Wirral Uniforms truly flourished — becoming the trusted name it is today.

A Community Built Business

Each summer, Wirral Uniforms employs over 40 staff members, many of whom once stood in those very queues as children. Pete has always believed in giving back, offering first jobs and work experience to young people from the local area. Ask any member of the team, and you’ll hear fond stories of getting their own uniform from Pete and his dedicated team.

Today, Wirral Uniforms proudly supplies schoolwear to over 200 schools across Wirral, with the same passion and personal service it began with more than four decades ago.

A New Era Begins

This year marks a major milestone, as Pete prepares to hang up his blazer and enjoy more time with his family and personal passions. His legacy, however, is in safe hands.

Taking over the reins are Georgia and Damien, a husband-and-wife duo who are excited and honoured to carry the torch. As proud locals and parents themselves, they are committed to keeping Wirral Uniforms an independent, family-run business — one that stays true to its roots while growing into the future.
